How to Make “Liquid” Fry Food – NEW VIDEO
This is a very simple recipe that my fry and adults LOVE. It is fed with an eyedropper, and my one blonde female Angel eats right from it… She’s more daring then my koi! I am also including a slight variation on the recipe to make it more suitable for adults, and people who do not have any powdered or liquid fry food to mix in.
RECIPE #1 – Filling Fry Mix
Ingredients:
3 ounces of tank water
1-1 1/2 teaspoons of powdered spirulina
1/2-3/4 teaspoon of Hikari Fry Bites (could also experiment with liquifry)
1/2 teaspoon of ground up flakes
1/2 teaspoon of ground up freeze-dried shrimp/bloodworms/etc
Equipment:
A cup (I use a dixie cup)
Something to mix with (kabob stick)
A paper towel (to wipe your hands off if you use your fingers)
An eyedropper (for feeding)
Begin with a few ounces of TANK water (not tap). I personally start this one with three ounces, but I feed leftovers to my koi who like this recipe as much as my guppies do. If need be, spread this recipe around to all of your tanks.. but just a few drops!
After you have some tank water in your cup…
Start by adding some spirulina to the mix. One to 1 1/2 teaspoons of powdered spirulina should be good, or just measure it out with your fingers (paper towel needed….), by adding enough to turn your water (in the cup) dark green. Next, add about 1/2 a teaspoon of Hikari First Bites or some other powdered fry mix. This adds some vitamins to your food.
Stir with your kabob stick (or chopstick). I find that spoons don’t mix very well for this recipe. You shouldn’t be able to tell there is anything but spirulina water in the cup. Add 1/2 a teaspoon of ground-up flakes to the mix, or judge with your fingers again. Stir this in very well.
Now, add about 1/2 a teaspoon of anything else that you think your fry would benefit from, being freeze-dried bloodworms, shrimp, ocean plankton, etc.
Feed a few drops with your eyedropper. If you find your fry are eating it fast enough, don’t be afraid to put more than a few drops in. Just don’t let it go uneaten.
RECIPE #2 – Adult and Fry Mix
Ingredients:
3 ounces of tank water
1 teaspoon of spirulina or thick algae water
1/2 teaspoon of ground up flakes
1/2 teaspoon of ground up freeze-dried shrimp/bloodworms/etc
Equipment:
A cup (I use a dixie cup)
Something to mix with (kabob stick or chopstick)
A paper towel (to wipe your hands off if you use your fingers)
An eyedropper (for feeding)
Begin with a few ounces of TANK water (not tap). I personally start this one with three ounces, but I feed leftovers to my koi who like this recipe as much as my guppies do. If need be, spread this recipe around to all of your tanks.. but just a few drops!
After you have some tank water in your cup…
Start by adding some spirulina or algae filled water to the mix. One teaspoon of powdered spirulina or algae water should be good, or just measure the spirulina out with your fingers (paper towel needed…), by adding enough to turn your water (in the cup) dark green.
Add 1/2 a teaspoon of ground-up flakes to the mix, or judge with your fingers. Stir this in very well.
Now, add about 1/2 a teaspoon of anything else that you think your fish would benefit from, being freeze-dried bloodworms, shrimp, ocean plankton, etc. (Maybe even LIVE food?)
Feed a few drops with your eyedropper. If you find your fish are eating it fast enough, don’t be afraid to put more than a few drops in. Just don’t let it go uneaten.
My guppies really adore this recipe, but I don’t feed it more than once every other day. If you would like to see a quick video of how to make the recipe, click on the link below.
